About Grace Temple
And this gospel shall be preached in all the world
for a witness to all nations was the aim and vision
of that little band led by Felma Elgin. In the year
of our Lord Nineteen Hundred and Thirty Four. This
little band found common ground in the word and
called themselves The Company Seventh Day Adventist
Church. The pioneers were Covell Elgin, Travis
Wilburn, Leola Pippins, S.E. Anderson, Zephaniah
Elgin and Katie Baker.
Like any organization they sought and looked for a
city which they could call there own, while
searching for that special place, God moved them as
he did Israel from Egypt to the promised land.
In the forties, they stopped by Wortham Hall, Brown
and Hardee Funeral Chapel, to the home of S.E.
Anderson, to the Methodist Church in Lake Coma and
finally to the Community Center.
In the 1050's God said its time to move and God
planted them in the Riverside Area on the corner of
Judkins and Chenault. Because of there trials and
blessings the early pioneers renamed the church
Emmanuel Seventh Day Adventist Church, for surely
God has been with us in the valley and on the
mountain top.
In 1963 Pastor Newton led the church to a new ere
by moving the church to 2936 Stuart Drive. The
pastor and membership realized it was nothing but
the grace of God that had led them thus far and as a
result renamed the church Grace Temple Seventh Day
Adventist Church.
From 1963 to 1988 the Grace Temple Church grew until
God said its time to move. Under the leadership of
Senior Pastor Durandel Ford, the promised land was
reached and the vision realized. On December 18,1988
The Grace Temple Temple Seventh Day Adventist Church
built and entered its brand new church at 4200 East
Berry where the vision has continued. We praise God
for His mighty works!
On behalf of our Senior Pastor Helvius Thompson we
invite you to come, be a part of our church family,
where you can discover and realize that God has
already invested to much in you for you to fail.
